Row 2 (WS): Purl to end.
• Rep rows 1-2 until scarf measures desired length, ending with a repeat of Row 1 (RS). With WS facing, bind off all sts purlwise, very loosely.

Wear it long and skinny or wrap it up and pin it in place with a pretty crocheted rose.

I named this scarf after our adopted dog, Mrs. Phillips (we sometimes call her Magz). I finished it the night we brought her home and I will always remember working up the last few rows while she was snuggled in my lap. What a cutie!

Beatiful, the scarf and the little dog….

I want to make the scarf, but I have one doubt…the Row 1 is : K1, yo,k3tog, to last stich,yo,k1.?
Is it correct?

Thanks

VO Knits July 26, 2011 at 3:31 pm

Hi, Carmen! I have edited the pattern to make it more clear:

Row 1 (RS): K1, yo, k3tog, *yo, k2tog*, rep from ** to last st, yo, k1.

K1, yo, k3 – repeat between the ** to the last stitch – yo and k1.

there is about 100 different flowers. Maybe one of them will do for your scarf.

Seems like such an easy pattern (and I’ve made much more complicated ones) but I don’t understand the [yo,k2tog] after the yo, k3tog. Are the brackets like the * in other patterns? Does that mean the rest of the row is 2 together until the last st or both k3 then 2 tog or? Thanks and a smooch for Magz!

Reply

VO Knits July 26, 2011 at 3:33 pm

Hi Monika! I have edited the pattern to make it more clear:

Row 1 (RS): K1, yo, k3tog, *yo, k2tog*, rep from ** to last st, yo, k1.

You will k1, yo, k3tog, then you will repeat between the asterisks to the last stitch, then you will yo, k1.

Thanks for the comment!

How do you attach the flower? I love this scarf and ordered the same yarn yesterday. They will make perfect Christmas gifts.

Thanks,
Noreen

VO Knits July 28, 2011 at 2:03 pm

Noreen,

I crocheted the flower, rolled it up and stitched it closed at the base, then I hot glued a circle of felt onto the back and glued that to a brooch pin like this.

What a beautiful scarf. And I love the flower. The dogs are darling and an important part of the pattern. I have my new rescue dog and year-old rescue calico cat sitting against me when I knit. Unless the cat is dragging the knitting, needles attached, around the house. Keep the good patterns coming! More dog pictures, too.

I really like Magz Diagonal Scarf and hope (hope!) to get a chance to try it soon, but I had to respond to the dogs! Beautiful little beasties! And I agree–rescue animals are the greatest. I only have cats at the moment (three girls), and all were rescued. We had a dog, but a friend fell so much in love that we had to let him go to her–they were made for each other!

And yes Rescue Dogs do Rule. I have two.

Such a cute scarf, and as a beginner knitter, You Tube helped me with some knit terms I did not know how to knit.

I had to change my yarn, as the yarn was too thin and the needles too big. But I am working on it.

I have to say all rescue animals are the best. They give you unconditional love and attention and they are the only ones I would ever adopt. I have 2 cats that were adopted from shelters/rescue groups. Your babies are cute!!!

I am knitting this scarf and am having trouble with the number of stitches left on my needle after row1 , I only have 18 stitches left. After ripping out and re-starting 3 times I am sure I am following the patten and I did not drop a stitch. I end up with 18 stitches all 4 times. Do you have any idea what I’m doing wron?.

Reply

VO Knits August 15, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Are you beginning and ending each row with a k1 stitch? If you are using a k2tog stitch on either end you will create an extra decrease and end up with 18 sts (if you cast on 19 sts).

The row starts with: K1, yo…
The row ends with: …yo, k1.

Reply

corinne farmer August 15, 2011 at 7:20 pm

i do start with K1, yo and end the row with yo, K1. I think the problem is the K3 together. This is where I am loosing a stitch on the first row.

Reply

VO Knits August 15, 2011 at 7:49 pm

The last yo before the k1 will make up for that lost stitch… are you sure you are making a yo before and after you k3tog?

Reply

Maureen September 10, 2011 at 5:07 am

I also end up with 18 stitches at the end of the first row, and then at the end of the third row, since I do not have 19 stitches, I can’t complete the pattern.

Reply

VO Knits September 10, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Maureen, can you read my responses to Corrinne’s comments above? That might help sort out the problem with your stitch count. Let me know!

HI, I wonder how this ends up with a narrow point on the end, if y0u never increase?

Reply

VO Knits September 10, 2011 at 5:37 pm

Maureen, the end is pointed because it is knit on the bias. You are essentially creating slanted rectangle and the pointed end is the extended corner.

We have 3 rescued dogs each with their own sad story……..but not anymore they rule the yard and house. Animals are soooo forgiving. I have now crochet “rugs” for the animals at our nearest shelter to lay in wait for that special family. PS your scarf is lovely too:>))

I love this scarf. I had started it last year and never finished it. I picked it up yesterday and couldn’t find the directions I had printed out and so I had it long enough and decided to join the ends to make a cowl. It turned out pretty cute that way as well but now that I the picture of it with the flower I had forgot about, I need to make another so I can have the flower option as well. Very cute.

We have a little dog named Lucy that looks a lot like Magz. I just LOVE little dogs! They act like a cat by snuggling and curling up on your lap, but they still are happy to see you when you come home, unlike so many cats who can’t be bothered!

Stephanie May 6, 2013 at 6:52 am

What’re the odds if I started today (5/6/13) that I could get it done by mother’s day (5/12)? Also, top right pic of Magz…um…did you have trouble assembling her when you got her home? :P
