Wow – this hat is beautiful. Can’t wait to see if I can do this.
I love this hat. A friend just made it for me for my birthday, and it is perfect!
That’s wonderful! Thanks for the comment – now let’s see a picture of you in your hat!!!
This hat is beautiful. I would love to make a similar one for my granddaughters ages 15 months and 3 1/2. Can you convert the directions for children’s sizes? I want to make an earflap hat for my grandson too. He’s 2 years old. Perhaps you have directions for a similar one for a boy. The buttons look great, but I think for small children I would prefer having the earflaps attached.
Thanks!
Hello, and thank you for the comment! You could work the hats in a lighter weight yarn and a smaller gauge for a child’s size – or I have a very similar hat here that is sized for children: http://voknits.com/lyon-hat/
Hello Veronica Could you tell me what kfb mean?
Thank you
Isabelle
Hello, Isabelle! kfb means ‘knit into the front and back of the same stitch’. You are making an increase. For more detailed descriptions of my stitches and abbreviations, please see this page: http://voknits.com/stitch-key/
Hi I have another question, which needle size do you use for the flap? 8 ?
thanks
Yes! You will use the SMALLER size needles to make the ear flaps, in this case the size 8 needles are used.
I have a difficult time using double point needles. Can you use any other type knitting needles?
I would look into the magic loop method. Try this link: http://www.knittingdaily.com/blogs/daily/archive/2009/09/16/the-magical-magic-loop.aspx
Where do you buy the butterfly? Or does anyone know of a book to teach how to make them also flowers to put on hats?Jan
