Custom size options: You can make this shawl in any yarn on any size hook – just crochet the base chain until it measures your desired “wingspan”. Try a half shawl if you want something smaller or a lighter weight yarn if you want a finer mesh!
Tip: Join new balls of yarn at the beginning of a row. Tie the loose yarn ends in a square knot and disguise them as part of the fringe.
Base chain: Ch 101 sts (or any multiple of 4 + 1 so that the chain measures the length of your wingspan – fingertips to fingertips with your arms outstretched). Turn.
Set up row: Sc in 8th ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 3 ch, sc in 4th ch*; repeat from ** to end. Turn.
Decrease row: Work 3 sc in first ch-5 space, *ch 5, sc in next ch-5 space*; repeat from ** to end of row. Turn.
Rep the above Decrease row until you end up with one final ch-5 space at the bottom tip of the triangle.
Fringe: Cut four 24″ pieces of yarn for each fringe and attach them together like so with your crochet hook in every ch-5 space along the edges of your shawl.
Blocking: Soak your finished shawl in a sink full of lukewarm water and wool wash, then squeeze out the excess water and hang it up and to dry. I ran my wet shawl through a gentle spin cycle in my washer to get all the water out – it worked wonderfully!
Sew clasp (optional): Mark where you want to attach your clasp (preferably where a sc meets the base chain) and reinforce the spot with a few hand stitches of thread, then sew the clasp in place securely. Repeat for the other half of the clasp.
