Here you will find a list of definitions for all the STITCHES, ABBREVIATIONS and TECHNIQUES found in my knitting patterns.
To keep my pattern pages concise and to cut down on paper waste,
not all definitions are including in my printable PDF patterns.

Basic knit bind-off – Knit one stitch. *Knit the next stitch, pass the first stitch over the stitch just made.* Repeat from ** to end, or until desired number of stitches have been
dropped off the needle.
beg – begin, beginning
BO – bind off
CC – contrast color
CO – cast on
cont – continue
dec – decrease
dpn(s) – double–point needle(s)
gs – garter stitch

in(s) – inch(es): 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters (25.4 millimeters)
inc – increase
k – knit
k2tog – knit 2 (stitches) together. One decrease made.
k3tog – knit 3 (stitches) together. Two decreases made.
kfb – (knit front and back): Knit into the front leg of one stitch, leave this stitch on the needle then knit into the back loop of this stitch. Drop both stitches off needle. One increase made.

m1 – see m1L
m1L – (make one left-leaning): Lift the bar between stitches with the left needle from front to back, knit this stitch through the back loop. One increase made.
m1R – (make one right-leaning): Lift the bar between stitches with the left needle from back to front, knit this stitch through the front loop. One increase made.
MC – main color
p – purl
p2tog – purl 2 (stitches) together. One decrease made.
p3tog – purl 3 (stitches) together. Two decreases made.
patt – pattern
pfb – (purl front and back): Purl into the front leg of one stitch, leave this stitch on the needle then purl into the back loop of this stitch (from left to right, twisting the stitch). Drop both stitches off needle. One increase made.

RS – right side
sl – (slip): see slp below
slk – (slip knitwise): Insert left needle into the front loop of the next stitch as if to knit. Slide this stitch directly to the right needle, without knitting it.
slp – (slip purlwise): Insert left needle into the front loop of the next stitch as if to purl. Slide this stitch directly to the right needle, without purling it.
sm – slip marker
ssk (slip, slip, knit): see below
ssk-I (slip, slip, knit “Improved” version): Slip one stitch as if to knit, slip one stitch as if to purl. Slide these two stitches back to the left needle and knit them together through the back loops. One decrease made.
st st – stockinette stitch
